Hyper-extended trunk

Here is a quick background and rundown.

- 2023 M340i, 5 months old, 2500 miles, garage kept
- trunk requires a good slam to close

... last week
- put backpack in trunk and closed it
- got in car
- opened garage
- saw garage going up in rearview mirror
- started and backed up slowly
- bad noise - f**k
- moved forward and got out
- trunk was open
- the metal hook/latch scraped the inside of the garage door
- seemed ok... minor scrape on the underside of trunk lid
- but then... i realized that the trunk hyper-extended
- the top corners of the trunk hit the rear pillars and chipped a little paint
- and then... i saw that the top corners of the trunk were slightly bent
- the left side was touching the window when i closed the trunk
- i bent it back slightly to prevent a problem with the window

All of this hurts. After all, I keep the car in the garage to protect it. Additionally, it really surprises me that the design allows for the trunk to hit the rear pillars/window. I will double-check if the trunk is closed!

I'm curious if anyone has seen something similar or has any suggestions for repair.
