I suspect I'm considerably older than yourself but fortunately don't suffer too much with back issues and also never had a problem with the sports seats in my previous two F32 coupes with the standard Dakota leather nor with my wife's current F22 coupe which also has Dakota leather.
I often wonder where BMW are going these days with their vehicle design?
