One of the many reasons this discussion always gets confusing is that manufacturers may recommend different oil specs for cars in the US, Canada and Europe, even though they are the same car. My assumption is that means all of them are acceptable, but country-unique emissions or fuel economy standards are driving the recommendations. US specs for all manufacturers seem to be strongly influenced by CAFE standards.
