Hey edycol, I'm looking to do my first oil change myself on a used 2020 m340i that I purchased at 23k miles. I've been looking around online to see what people have been saying and I'm so confused lol
Lol. Under warranty or not?

Warranty: LL17FE or if manual allows LL01FE, go that. Just get from local dealership or if LL01FE, go Motul Specific 5W30 LL01FE.

No warranty: any LL04 or LL01.
In Wal Mart you have Pennzoil Platinum Euro L 5W30. Change every 5 k.
Motul X-Clean+ 5W30 is super choice but available online!

LL01 is so called Full SAPS oil. Currently I would go Pennzoil Platinum Euro 5W40 (local Auto Zone could have deal) or Motul X-Cess 5W40 GEN2. But ANY approved LL01 will do it.
It's still under warranty for 2 more years but I plan to keep it well after 2 years. Should I just start using the LL04 and LL01 oils?

Also, what weight do you suggest? 0w20?
LL01 and LL04 oils come only in 5W30 or 5W40 weight. That is bcs. Their minimum HTHS is 3.5. HTHS is actually what you should be interested in. It is resistance to temporary or permanent loss of viscosity. LL17FE is 0W20 oil with minimum HTHS of 2.6cp.
Higher HTHS=more protection. But, you don't want to go too crazy as higher HTHS=more resistance =lower mpg.
If manual mentions LL01 FE (FE=Fuel economy) use LL01 (without FE designation).
Generally LL04 is just low-SAPS version of LL01 (DPF/GPF compatible). It is thick version of LL17FE. Why BMW doesn't mention LL04 as option in manual in US, I don't know. In Europe B58 runs on LL04 not LL17FE.
Thoughts on Liqui-Moly 5w-30 oil?
Average. Better oils out there.
Pennzoil is good, Motul etc.
If you going LL01, go Motul X-Cess 5W40 GEN2, Pennzoil Platinum Euro 5W40.
What about a 5w30 oil?
