It works but you have to have direct contact with the door handle to lock and unlock. For instance, it doesn't work if I put the card inside my phone case (iPhone). So for me at least, it's not particularly useful. Much easier just the carry the key.
It may be useful when one go swimming/ skiing etc where you don't want to get the actual key wet.
