At the end of the day, for what it is, the S65 has to be right up there with one of the best engines BMW has ever produced. To me, it's lower maintenance than the S54, but feels even more special. It's a high strung, high performance engine, so some maintenance is required. It'll never pretend to be a Toyota engine.

In P65 competition spec, it was the most reliable V8 engine in GT racing. What more is there to say?
