Yes, the MkIV does, indeed give more latitude.
I adapted the philosophy of not blowing out "important highlights". On all my white birds in full sun, if you look at the preview, after I pull down highlights in Raw conversion, there will still be small areas that are blinking. I think that this is far better than making all the highlights too dark, which I think is a common mistake by many, not you, that try to save ALL highlights.
This attitude has improved the overall look of my shots of birds with white, IMO.
