There are hundreds of pre-production prototypes all around the world during R&D. Part suppliers also need time to fabricate the plastic injection molds prior to production-- nothing that can be done in a few weeks between the revel and SOP.

I'm postive that the production model exterior was finalized prior to the Concept 4 shown last September.

BMW is already at work for the replacement 4 series in 7 years, as BMW has a 10 year product road map-- I have been told this 1st hand by an BMW AG executive in Germany.
