I get the romanticism and nostalgia of the old ads, but beyond owning a Bimmer of this vintage for the Sunday morning drive, I don't think I would want to daily drive a car this old which admittedly is crude in many levels and not necessarily paragons of safety by modern standards.

You misunderstand me. I would like current day Bimmers to be reasonably priced and reasonably reliable. In my experience, they are neither of those things.

In my view F and G chassis seem to be far more reliable than preceding E chassis cars.
And about BMWs being affordable... Not happening it is marketed as a desirable luxury brand.
