Here's a little trick for you that we teach in our Aikido classes. Something as simple as a handshake years ago was thought of as being an opportunity for an attack, especially if the person is stronger and controls the hand.

The next time someone shakes your hand, grasp with all fingers as usual except for your Index Finger. Leave it extended and pointed straight at the person's center-point or navel.

It sets in chain a series of mechanical advantages in case you were to ever need your hand back in a hurry, and doesn't allow the person shaking your hand to gain any leverage. They can squeeze all they want, but can never seem to find a good grip.

It's also a useful tool for when meeting new people. If my hand is grasped in a similar manner, I know at some point that person has had some type of training.
