Ok well all I did was erase/remove my cell phone from iDrive, step 1 and then logged into the app accidentally prior to doing step 2 and it already fixed it.... so I don't know if just doing step 1 fixed it for me or if the app randomly started working today.

I'd think just deleting it from the car made it work...

Regardless.... I am happy it is working after 4 months now!
