i think it's simply because xdrive has more losses and traction generally isn't an issue with 2wd when you're at stock ish 30i power levels. Basically if you're not spinning the tires with RWD, AWD isn't going to improve your times. And even then, if all that there is is a small chirp from the tires, the extra mass/friction from the AWD won't do you any good for straight line accel.
Of course in the snow and whatever all that is a different story
