I would take a B3 in a heartbeat. I love the understated nature of it. But there are some problems. The main one being you need to be wealthy enough to not make entirely rational decisions.

APR on a BMW is 2.9% right now. APR on an Alpina is a minimum of 5.9%. Discount on an M car is about 8-10%. Discount on an Alpina is about 0%. So essentially, the Alpina costs drastically more to buy for similar performance. If you’re a cash buyer willing to drop £85k on a 3 Series, none of this would matter of course.

I put down a deposit on an M3 Tourer build slot at the weekend. Hoping the LCI will have fixed the face by then…
