If you look at Coupe-Cabrio with more organic surfaces with hard tops then you see a flaw, especially one BMW have made the case for not doing this.
Basically the A pillar eventually stretches over the driver, when the driver should be behind it. The Coupe-Cabrio top of the E92 and F32 work in tandem with the cars styling. The deck is conceived to be low and flat.
The new G33 now uses the more organic surfaces as The 8. Rather than the laser cut sharp elements of the previous 2 models. Adding the sharper straight elements of a folding hard top would not sit right on the actual deck.
