I think an intermediate step (not likely here) could be a "mild hybrid" like my 2020 GLE. I-6 with integrated 48V ISG and fairly small battery so not a huge weight penalty. Adds torque, eliminates any turbo lag and makes the start/stop system seamless. Could have a short all-electric mode.
