The G8X is more the 997. The time when all earth shaking changes become much improved and acceptable.

997 was beautiful, came with PDK in later generation as well. 996 was ugly and came with bunch of hate inducing factors such as air cooled ->water cooled. I would say G8x is definitely more 996.
