The move to split the M3’s and M4’s launch make perfect sense. With the M3 sedan having to depend on the 2 door version to end production and then depend on the regular 3 series to be in production it end up with one of if not the shortest life cycle of any BMW and to mkoesel’s point on ROI on a model plus the fact of being off the market for an extended period is bad for business.
As for the risk to reveal the 4 series front that ship has sailed intentionally by revealing the design well ahead at Frankfurt.
