Couldn't agree more.
Didn't like the full digital dash on the Professional system the first time I saw it, but I didn't want to dismiss it before I get to use it. Unfortunately, after trying it out on the road, my opinion is even stronger. It doesn't work for me, and I think it's a step backwards. Analog dials with a center anchor are just far more readable. The needle and it's movement contains an inherent information about the current value, and even more important, it contains the information about how that value is changing.
As a Software professional with years of experience in User Interfaces and UX, I see that BMW had good intentions with the digital dash, and it partially succeeded. Unfortunately, for me the biggest problems are information overload and the lack of immediate readability.
