I had my 2020 ECU unlocked last week. It took 15mins and didn't need to be removed.
The shop stuck a couple of probes into connecting points on the ECU and performed some wizardry from their laptop.
Here in the UK, there's a remapping shop in every town that can unlock ECUs. I opted for this convenient method before flashing Bootmod3 because it was quick and easy.
