Regarding why MP would make their statement, it sounds like they were given information from a source they trust (when maybe they shouldn't) and are passing it on as hearsay because it makes their product more appealing maybe. Note that they have not re-addressed it at all since their first post. Their information is not necessarily reality.

The bottom line here is... M340i is great and Car and Driver sucks.
