In a drag race, the M340i will beat the 330d, no doubt. And it’s kinda hard to explain when I say the 330d probably has more “push-you-into-the-seat” feeling than the M340i.
I’ll give you an example. When I went to India a couple of months back, I drove my 2.0 diesel VW with 140bhp (I had an Audi A4 B9 2.0TFSI here back then). The VW felt like it pushed me deeper into the seat than my A4 did when accelerating under WOT from a start, even though my A4 had more than twice the power of the VW. Don’t ask me how or why. My VW produces more torque than my A4. I attribute the feeling to torque (I could be wrong). Did my VW out accelerate my A4? Absolutely not (0-60mph in 4.7s vs 7.9s on the VW).
