I am surprised as many people have responded they are getting one as have. I guess a lot of people have cars worth 50%+ of their annual income? Either than or you have a entry 3 series and your spouse just has a shitty car?
Keep in mind, there may be other factors involved here as well though. I make decent money, my car cost about 36% of my yearly income. I also have less than $5k total debt (aside from car). House is paid off, I'm single and my kids are adults living on their own.
