Question regarding BC button.
When I use the BC button it runs me through all my trip options, but it doesn’t go back to what was originally stored there - like Engine info. Is that normal?

There’s nothing stored there, it’s just designed to cycle through whatever info is in the Board Computer (BC)for your car; Trip computer, Journey data, Tire pressure, etc. I don’t even remember what’s there since I just put mine on one thing and leave it there.

You just need to repeatedly press the button to cycle through all the options and you will end up back with the displayed info that you want. It would be nice if you could select what is accessed by the BC button… I would delete several of the displays as I never use them.

With iD8, if you want to toggle thru the IP info displays, you must first press the button with three horizontal lines (ya, the button that was for media sources since forever), then use the track arrow buttons to select IP display or HUD display options, and then use the scroll knob to toggle thru the IP display options. Clear as mud. Ridiculous change for changes sake. And btw, I love iD8, but there are many, many UI changes like this that are just stupid.

As you say, it’s been like I described forever and the thought never occurred to me that they would change it - that is really going to confuse me when I get my next car…

Yep. It's been the same on every BMW I've owned for at least 25 years. Now it takes three steps to accomplish what was done with one. Progress.

Yeah, I have iD7 and it’s been functioning the same for the 20+ years I’ve been driving BMWs. Didn’t realize they made a change with iD8.

I’m traveling for work and rented a 23’ Z3 with Idrive 7.5 and the BC button scrolls through all data fields not just consumption data. Hopefully BMW can do the same for Idrive 8 with a software update.

I actually think it's a little better. In iD7 if you somehow skipped what you wanted, you had to BC all the way around to the beginning then go back. On multiple occasions, I've assumed (wrongly) how many button presses I needed to get to, say, tire pressure, then had to go back around a *2nd* time. With the button/scroll, you can go up/down and choose pretty quickly without the issue of hitting the wrong menu. Plus I never used that button for changing radio source, ever, so I think it's put to good use now. |
