Planning to buy G20 m340i - What to look out for?
Hey!
My f30 328i got totaled by a red light runner and I’m going to buy a pre facelift m340i. Anything I should look out for when I buy one of these? Any features you would deem as must haves? Planning on throwing on a bootmod3 tune on it eventually. Thanks! |

I’m pretty sure at some point (2021+?) the DMEs were locked by BMW so make sure to buy one from before they started locking. otherwise you won’t be able to get the bm3 tune unless you ship your DME overseas to be unlocked. Or get a piggyback tune instead. Don’t think anyone in the states has cracked it yet, you can search on the forums for details.

Must have features are very subjective. The car comes pretty well equipped stock. Majority of the used ones you come across are going to have premium package/drivers assistance at the least. A lot of people will tell you adaptive suspension is a must have, which depending on where you live and what the roads are like I'd be inclined to agree.
Personally I wouldn't buy an m340i with the base 18 inch rims, but that's just me. I have the executive package too which I've come to really like due almost entirely to the laser headlights

^ Agree with that. If you live anywhere where the roads are not perfect, get the Adaptive M. It's the kind of option that directly impacts and affects your daily drive every single time you drive the car if you live in the Northeast. If you are out west, like around Arizona, it probably won't make a noticeable difference.

I’d be sure to get one with Parking Assistance Professional (PAP); it comes with the surround view 360 camera. The camera is really good when parking by the curb or in front of those ridiculously high parking blocks; saves you from curbing your wheels and scratching your front bumper.
Another underrated feature is the drive recorder (comes with PAP.) That can make a huge difference on claims in a crash situation. Just set it to auto and it records 20 secs before a crash and 20 secs after. Good luck. |
