Display Key G20

Hello guys, would anyone know if it is possible to buy a Display Key can be purchased without coding and activated on the BMW G20?

Could someone say what is the procedure for synchronizing an additional new key to the 3 G20 series? In the manual I found just how to proceed in case of a missing battery in the key.

Not too sure about the display key and if it'll work with the G20 platform.

To activate a new key, (assuming it was ordered through BMW or any other official means and it's coded to the VIN of the vehicle), put the car in Diagnostic Mode by pressing the Start/Stop button three times in quick succession, hold the new key over the marking on the lower right side of the steering column, foot firmly on the brake and then press the Start/Stop button a couple more times until the vehicle starts. Sounds weird, but that's how it worked for me.

I have a display key for G20, came from the factory. Display key is ok, but find it a bit clumsy and you have to charge the key all the time. Instead I use BMW app mostly to connect with my car.

Good to know! Extra coding involved to get it working or did it activate as you would a standard key?

My BMW M340i came from the factory with two sets of keys, one was a display key with the touch screen and the second one was a "standard" remote fob. No extra coding involved in my case, works like a standard key (although I had to activate the display key as my primary key and link it to my driver profile). I assume you can buy display key as after market, but then you need to program ("activate") your key fob.

Just wanted to bring this back from the dead to say thank you!!!
Worked for me.

Bought a key from the dealer for $400, they wanted $220 to program the comfort access but I did my research before hand and found your post, this worked flawlessly.
The key didn't work at all. They told it that it'll unlock the car but remote start and comfort access needs to be programmed. But it didn't even unlock or lock like they said it would.

Followed your directions and everything works as it should.

Thanks again

I’m glad it worked!

Nice! So what are your thoughts on the key? I was considering it for the geek factor, but had read it was a bit slow, needs regular charging and is pretty bulky.

Do you now have three working keys in total?
2 normal and 1 display key?

I have the display key (from factory). Since I use My BMW app to remotely control my parking heater, the one thing it does for me is that it is the only way for me to get information on (false theft alarm reason.

(I had a couple alarms of unknown origin until I learned to use the display key instead of the less bulky standard key. But I'm ready for the next ...). Needs charging every month or so, but I think turning of the display saves power (long press on the display button). It anyway syncs information from the car. (There are more information in the BMW app.) I would not use it unless I wanted to catch the reason for a potentially next false alarm.

Reviving an old thread here, but is there any other way to charge the BMW Display Key than via USB cable if my car does not have the NFC or wireless charging pad?
It's weird, I know, but my car came from the factory with the Display Key, but doesn't have either type of charging pad.
I know that the 7-series cars have a charging pocket under the armrest, so I'm wondering if maybe the G20 has something similar as well and I just haven't been able to find it...

I charge the Display Key with a 3-party wireless Qi compatible charger (at home).
