Hey all - I have a ton of seat time in 2020 M340s and love the pops and burbles. I drove a 2021 M340 with MPE and noticed that there are no pops and burbles unless you floor it and then lift off. No pops on downshifts or light throttle then lifting off......anyone else notice this?

Same here. I got a 2021 m340i couple days ago. Basically no pops, maybe 1 if I’m lucky. No matter what mode or RPM

I test drove a new 2021 m340 with mpe this weekend and noticed exactly this.

I actually preferred it to my MPPSK F32 where the pops are literally at any rpm when lift off occurs,

Noticed the same thing. I have a 20 and it pops like crazy. Buddy of mine recently got a 21 and same issue No pops.

can this be fixed with software? or is it due to the mild hybrid? I am taking delivery next month and I was really looking forward to that sound....

has anyone asked their CA or bmw genius to look into this?

Wow bait and switch by BMW. Why didn’t they mention the change to the exhaust on the 2021? Odd thing is the m440i sounds like the 2020 m340i so perhaps BMW wanted the coupe to sound more sporty than the sedan and they neutered the exhaust on the m340i! Mine is still being built but I’m not happy to hear this.

Hoping this isn't true as well, I have one I ordered and arriving next week. Maybe it just needs time to break in to start getting the pops? I heard the stock exhaust on 2020 model and it had plenty and sounded great. I went with MPE on mine so hoping it would be even better, as least thats how it should be not other way around. I guess we will see

2k miles on my 21’ absolutely no pops or burbles under any circumstance. Pretty upsetting as I was content with the stock sound on the 20’ guess I’ll have to drop some cash on an exhaust now.

PARTS@STBMW Brit what info do you have on this? I know your M340 is dialed in with DPs and MPE and sounds insane!! but whats the situation on the exhaust for the stock models and software updates/changes?

Also if this is true about little to no pops and burbles would getting an exhaust like the dinan one fix that?

Apparently 2021 M340i is essentially backed by a hybrid system or motor as well. Car goes quiet on the highway and what not. Although 0-60 is 0.1s faster.

seems like the 2021 really don't have any pops and burbles anymore, on my MY2020, downshifts on that will get a loud pops for sure lol

And from the video, in comfort mode, the gauge cluster don't show rpm anymore

Smh that is very disappointing. Did bmw ever say they were changing the exhaust? When I was at dealership and test drove the 2020 that was a big reason why I ordered the 2021 and was no information on this. Would getting the domain exhaust add the pops and burbles you think? Or is the hybrid engine what took that away??

I'm sure the exhaust is the same for 2021. What possibly changed could be the fueling parameters.

I don't think they changed anything with the exhaust. I would imagine they simply tuned out the pops and burbles. Adding an aftermarket exhaust could help slightly, however, you will need a tune for it to be quite noticeable.

Pops and burbles are typically tuned by allowing an intentional lean misfire when letting off the throttle. My guess is, with the 2020 it was tuned to do so, just like the F30 with MPPSK. Looks like they have dialed that back for 2021 for whatever reason. Could be to do with the new M3 coming out.

Not when done safely which I'm sure BMW did. If you reflash with an aggressive pops and bangs map then there could be potential issues down the road.

Doubtful. Most major automakers are doing this these days, MB, Porsche, etc, all do this. And Porsche is still close to the top of reliability rankings.
