Harmon Kardon
Was just reading over on the X5 board that new build orders that have ordered the Harmon Kardon are being downgraded to the Hi-Fi system due to lack of parts.
My dealer just got me an allocation for a m340 Xdrive, and I have ordered the Harmon Kardon. I’m hoping this doesn’t turn out to be an issue. Anyone here know for sure about this? I’ll try to find out what I can from the dealer tomorrow |

If this is true, and I haven't read anything about it yet, the dealership has to inform you and you have to accept/sign off on this material change. This change allows you the opportunity to walk away from the deal if you choose not to accept the H/K system being downgraded to base Hi-Fi.

So far only the X5/X6 is being effected by the HK shortage. All other models seem to have ample supply at the point. So far no X5/X6 orders seem to have been downgraded (ignoring a dealer that just took the order and didn't tell the buyer about the HK problem until after they signed) once they have been accepted and scheduled for production. The HK system has been removed from packages and new packages designed for future orders.
I talked to my sales manager and he said they have not heard anything on other models being effected in the future but of course it could happen if things get bad enough.

Just got my production build sheet, and the HK was indeed included.
However, I just posted a new thread, BMW has deleted front passenger width adustment 48Z, $100 credit, and deleted front passenger lumbar support ZLF, and $175 credit. Waiting on a call back from my CA I bet they are running short of parts. |

May be different depending on where it's built? My CA told me that the earliest build he could schedule for a build with HK was in May, but my car is being done in Mexico.

That could also be the only allocation your dealer had.

Yes, probably, but in either case my week 9 build didn't have the option for the sound system
Wish I started reading these forums earlier, I should have just up and asked around at another dealer, but now I feel like with the car almost completed, waiting through the process again isn't super worth it. |

My M340i was scheduled for production in 9th week (first week in March), but because of restricted components - Harman/Kardon and lumbar support, it was postponed until mid March.
I rather chose to wait for Harman/Kardon than having the car sooner, but with the hifi instead. |

Dealer keeps me informed (we don't have the tracking in EU). My car was scheduled for week 9, then because of restricted H/K and lumbar support, it was postponed by month to the beginning of April and then the date was again moved luckily to mid March. I hope nothing will come in way so the car can be produced within two weeks from now!

Azureus, we don't have formal tracking in the U.K. (no idea why though : ) but the live chat on the BMW website can give you updates. Possible it's the same in Europe?
Just give them your order number and they'll confirm latest status! |

Call Genius and stay on the line for a live person. They will be able to give you the production week and the actual date as it draws closer.

When the pandemic hit, the automakers slashed their demand forecasts. This in turn had an effect on the semiconductor manufacturers who don't have an agile supply chain. The silica mining reduced and so did the semiconductor output, as well as, supply being reallocated to other industries. When the opposite happened, ie car demand increased, the supply chain got put under pressure. We are seeing the effects only now because for the last few months, the manufacturers had short term supply on hand. We are seeing this in other industries as well - same reason why PCs, gaming consoles, phones are also all short in inventory etc. I spoke to my dealer - all series are impacted and they're having a hard time because BMW very much sprung this as a surprise. "Affected are series of all segments and price ranges, including the BMW 1 Series F40, the 2 Series Gran Coupé F44, the 3 Series Sedan G20 and the 3 Series Touring G21, the Mid-Range SUV X3 G01, the 4 Series Coupé G22 and the 4 Series Convertible G23, the 5 Series Sedan G30 and the 5 Series Touring G31 as well as Full-Class SUVs such as X5 G05 and X6 G06." - https://www.bimmertoday.de/2021/02/2...nen-streichen/ https://www.washingtonpost.com/techn...outputType=amp |

How do we tell if our car was affected?

You should be fine. The HK shortage seems to be over since the option is back on the configurator and has been available for new builds as well as being added to existing orders where possible for the last week or so.

I ordered mine a couple months ago and it's in transit at the moment to San Diego. Assembly was from 2-4 through 2-8.

Then you definitely have nothing to worry about. Only builds that were scheduled after 3/1 were affected and only for about a week or so.

If you were impacted, your build sheet would show it. Ask your dealer but I think you should be good - it's the late March/early April builds (week 14-16) that were really flagging the shortages. Exciting times with your delivery ahead! |
