EDIT:- I've dropped Connected Drive an e-mail. Will report back if/when they reply. They'll probably say something like 11/203.50 is the latest update LOL! Last edited by The_Tok'Ra; 10-14-2024 at 03:44 AM.. |

Just an update to say... I have no update. I e-mailed Connected Drive early on Monday morning (the 14th) but other than the automated "we will respond as soon as possible" I've had no reply yet from Connected Drive.
Needless to say, I'm not impressed with my first attempt at contacting BMW CS thus far. |

Disappointing response from Connected Drive CS
Hey folks, I have recieved a response from Connected Drive....
"Good morning XXXXX Thanks for contacting BMW ConnectedDrive. I can confirm that this update has been released in the last couple months however if you have not received the notification on the app, it is unlikely that your vehicle will be able to download this update over the air. I would advise getting in contact with your local BMW Centre for further assistance with this as they can download this manually for you. I apologise I couldn't be of further assistance, but I do hope this helps resolve your issue. As it seems that everything has been addressed regarding this issue, I'll proceed to mark this case as resolved. You don't need to reply or take any other action with this. Once again thanks for contacting BMW ConnectedDrive. Please be aware that you may receive a survey once this case has been marked as resolved. If you do receive this, just know that it will be for myself as an agent, not your experience as a whole with BMW. I would appreciate if you could take the time to fill this out so that I may improve my customer experience in the future. If there is anything else I can do for you, please feel free to get back in touch with us at any time. Kind regards" Pretty disappointing response, when updates to the car are not even provided over the air (OTA) but instead downloaded to your phone, then transferred to the car by (seeminly both) BT and Wi-Fi So now my car is over 3 years old, am I now expected to accept that software updates are a chargable upgrade at the stealers? I had this problem with mine but because it was under 3 years old the dealer updated it for me under warranty. It then worked absolutely fine for the next software update about 6 months ago.
I was expecting it to continue to work but like you I've not been notified of this update yet on my car. I'll be quite annoyed if what they've written is true as it's sold as part of my connected drive subscription (though I note they've now decided it's a 'free service') so really should work. Hopefully they are wrong and on this occasion it's just taking ages to release it. There seems to be quite a few of us with the same issue. Has anyone with a 2019-2022 car received this update yet? |

OK, Thanks guys! I expect that if I were to contact my local dealer, and also where I get my servicing done, they will tell me that to have the car hooked up to ISTA to do an update, that would be chargable.
However, The car will be going in for a service inspection in late January or Early February, I'll I'll ask them to carry out the update then, when they will no doubt have the car hooked up anyway. It still bugs me that for no apparent reason, the car needs to be updated by the dealer though.. What's the point of offering "Remote Software Updates" if that's a "well, maybe"? My G26 is approaching its 3rd birthday and having never had a single remote update I'd given up hope and assumed that something was missing as a result of "ye greate chip shortage of 2021" (seems such a long time ago now).
When I complained, BMW customer service paid for a dealer update last year but nothing since which kind of reinforced my assumption something was missing in the car build. Then last week, lo and behold the app tells me 07/2024 is available. It updated in the car at the weekend after a motorway cruise of about an hour.

My G21 was built in February 2021, and 1st registered on the 1st of March, so more early 2021 than late 2021, The various chip shortage issues had been resolved by that point, I believe, at least for M340i builds anyway!

I’m wondering if the cars only get updated once a year in a staggered fashion?
I’m on 11/2023 - and even that didn’t happen until feb/march time this year.. admittedly I had a mare getting the battery to a state to perform the RSU. Previous to that - I installed 03/2023 when I got the car last September.. it was on 07/2021 when I collected it, so the prev owner hadn’t kept it up to date. I can’t imagine that there will be many/any more updates for these ID7 cars now considering there’s ID8, 8.5 and 9 in all the new models. Last edited by MisterG; 10-26-2024 at 08:35 AM.. |

They are still manufacturing cars new with iDrive 7. Not many now I agree, but there were a lot more until the X3 and the 1 and 2 series changed earlier this year.

I just spotted the following on another Bimmerpost forum, in the "What have you done to your car today?" post.
Changed my battery on my 2019 G20 which as a bonus triggered the latest software update installation after my first drive. |

Start with BimmerLink. You can check your batteries health and register a new one if you need to replace it.

So... Bought the Bimmer Link app, hooked the phone up to the car and the 12v battery is at 55% Which would not be so bad... if the car had not been on my C-TEK 20A charger since 9am this morning.
I will leave it charging over night I think, if the rain stays off, but I think my battery may not be able to meet the conditions to install an update at the moment, >65% I think it needs to be. That said, w/o a notification in the app to then download the update to my phone and then transfer it to the car, the SoC of the battery is a moot point. |
