This is for a vehicle I am looking to purchase, build is 03/19 - it would give me peace of mind to see oil pump issue has been taken care of.
Enter the VIN of the vehicle in the this NHTSA link...https://www.nhtsa.gov/ to uncover any unrepaired recalls on the vehicle.

Click on the "Learn More" link for details on the vehicle i.e. the # of recalls, description of recalls and other info.

FYI, if the vehicle FW (ilevel) has been updated to S18A-21-03-567 or higher, then the recall affecting the oil pump has been completed. See attached for the details on this specific recall.

Apparently abnormally high oil pressure is another symptom so maybe run a log with your flasher and see if that's also there.
On a b58, what would you call abnormally high oil pressure? Anything over 80-85 psi?

This is not an attempt to answer your question, but are you able to perform an oil level measurement after the engine is warm?

I am, at all times. Im hearing the whirring sound you mentioned in one of your posts. Mine is a 2021 m340i, so oil pump was never a concern. Struggling with dealers as they want to see the engine light or an idrive message before they take me seriously. My oil pressure psi hits 110 at times (at 1800-6000 rpms ) which Ive communicated and find odd but Im not sure what the normal range is. Other posters have indicated up to 83 psi on full throttle.

So never hits 90-100-110 psi? Is this an full throttle? What do you see when driving normally?

The datalog I posted was a full throttle run through gears 1-3. I don't think i've ever seen it go past 90 psi. It's usually around 35-60 psi just driving normally.

If your over 100psi I would definitely consider a pump change, the pump has a plastic surround and the more psi that is put on it than it was designed for, the more likely youll have a catastrophic oil pump failure.

Even though mine is a 2021, this is also what Im leaning towards, an oil pump issue. Will test out a friends G20, have my Indy mechanic friend take a look and then go back to BMW. Right now they dont want to touch it since theres no engine light on. Thank you for the info and tips.

So Im in a weird place right now with my 2021 m340ix. Bimmerlink telling me Im hitting 110-120psi even at 2000-3000 RMP. With engine off the psi reading is 15psi. I confirme on a 2019 440i/b58 that it was also at 15 psi when off, at max RPM it never passed 85psi.

Theres an ever-present whirring/whining sound that others have described previously that follows RPMs after engine is at operating temp. Ive had to top off twice since my last oil change. 2L (2 qt) about 3 months / 6700 km/4100 mi when Idrive told me to. Then another top off of 2L when dealer dropped all the oil, measured and saw I was missing 2L. Dealer mentioned idrive never displayed a message. That top off was 1900 Km / 1200 mi AFTER second one. So 4L added in 5300 miles. Im actually speaking to shop foreman whos been courteous. None of this is normal. Its all heading to an oil pump replacement unless theres some type of catastrophe by then. And recently these error codes appeared for first time BUT Ive never had a CEL even once:
  • 1C0101: Engine oil pressure control, plausibility, static: pressure too high
  • 1C2001: Engine oil pump: pressure too high

Whats worse, I AM able to read my oil level. It has never failed. No loss of power experienced. So Im thinking the oil pump is getting worse and whining. Some oil level sensor is partially working since idrive didnt detect missing oil. Ive contacted BMW Canada asking for assistance to free dealer up to run full diagnostics and repairs. Because right now, their next step is to measure the oil on the next oil change in 8000Km/5000mi. Best of all several dealers barraging me to offload my lease because theres a shortage of m340is on the market. What a mess

Have a 2020 as well and have the same symptom. The annoying part was I literally found out about the oil pump failure issue with these cars a month after my BMW warranty ran out and was stressing until I realized I have 3rd party warranty.

So now Im taking advantage of it and replacing my oil pump, sensor and a whole bunch of other stuff, maybe even a new stock turbo because we found a lot of excess oil on the charge pipe post turbo. The car will be feeling like new and looking new in the engine bay (I think the valve cover gasket are going bad too)

It looks like Ill have to either replace it with a new car at a higher rate given the economic climate or get an extended warranty.

I know this has probably been answered, but what are the main symptoms of the oil pump going out? Mine is a 2/2020 production only recall I found when I checked via VIN was for Brake Assist which I haven't done since my DME is unlocked and don't want them to update. Sitting at 55K miles, been using 0W-30 for majority of the cars life. Been tuned since early on as well.

The most certain way is that when you go to check the level, it stops at somewhere between 16-23%

It really should be a recall by BMW at this point.
Dealing w the issue now. Apparently not enough ppl called corporate to complain this is what I was told today. If they knew more about this issue they said they would have just stepped in and fixed it but who knows

I had same issue. When I would do oil measurement it failed at 15-16%...it is 2020 m340i...they replaced the oil pump...and now it reads fine now...car only has 24,000 mi...I have an extended warranty and it was 3,400$ for parts and labor....I had to pay 250$ for deductible. I agree, definitely should be recall...never had oil pump go bad on any other vehicle in 40+ years of driving. Thankful I bought a warranty...
