Very true, actually. The worst is when people think they're saving money by buying a hybrid variant of a similar model to "save" money on gas.

If you have a mileage limit on a lease, it will be cheaper to but more miles than to buy, maintain and insure a second car.

Well I also live in Maine where the winter is brutal. I would like to throw a cover on the car for the rest of the winter, and stop putting as many miles on the bimmer. Also I'm sick of washing the car every two days! I hate getting in the car and seeing the mess that is left behind from salty/sandy/snowing shoes!! So there are other reasons besides just gas.
Update: Found a 2008 Honda Fit with only 5k miles on it. Brand new they are close to 15k, so I managed to talk her down to 13k. I'll post pics up the new buggy when I get it!

don't get why people have commuter cars, but if you must, I'd say just go with like an 90+ civic. or you can take the bus? 12k for a beater is kinda too over doing IMO.
