G23 M440i Cabrio.
The Autumn sunlight catches some of the interesting sculpture on the surfaces of the new 4er. Lending to a new language of design with subtle crisp lines and defined haunches at the rear. And then there is that kidney grille. Of course some of you will hate as well as debate this controversial element. And then I will say it's been over 10 years already since the E92.

Seriously a soft top? When they knife your top at the airport parking is BMW going to pay for it?
No thanks- first we lose the diesel series on the X5 at a time when oil prices are climbing and now we loose the 4 series hardtop which is the greatest feature ever!! |

Looks like the G22 430 gets the dual round ones and the M440 gets the quasi (or queasy) dual rectangular tips.

Unfortunately any vandalism will be the responsibility of the owner, but Part of the attraction of the hard top convertible is the added security.

Not a fan of soft tops. While I get the space issue, I like the sound deadening quality of a hardtop plus the security; no worries about some idiot slicing your fabric top to break in. I was considering a 4-vert but we'll see.

And so dies one the last of the hardtop convertibles. Only MB is holding on with the SLC and SL (the Miata RF still lives on but that's not a true convertible)...Infiniti, Lexus, now BMW. I personally love the hardtops. The folding hard tops took clever engineering....soft tops just look lazy to me. The current 4 series is a perfect one car vehicle. For the person who only has one car but wants both the vert fun with the practicality of a coup. When I had the 430 convertible trunk space was never an issue as the back seats (unusable for humans) was perfect for cargo.

Yes hard tops are going. As I have a 'spare' hardtop convertible sitting in my garage (nice and secure) that I have no interest in selling I'm just fine. I just empathize with those that will miss the security of the hardtop. Thanks!

I know it's always hard to tell with this much camo on but I'm liking where the new 4 is going. The lines (profile shot) look really good even as a rag top!
I can't wait to see the coupe because I think it'll be a smaller 8 coupe. If it looks like an 8, light as 4, all wheel drive and the new 5 interior-ish they will be on to a absolute winner. I love the look of the current 4 series but that interior its like an 1983 ford escort dash, no depth just a cheap slab of hard plastic that looks crap! Pushed me into 6 series which is hard to trade down from now looks wise and an interior plushness that is a pleasure to spend time in. So if its a mini 8 my order will be M Performance 440d x drive on 20's then remapped to just over 410bhp.. where do I sign

Just for the record, going ragtop will only save HALF of that 500lb people keep quoting as the F33’s weight penalty over the 4 series coupe...the other half relates to the extra convertible bracing that will always be required for any ragtop.
The 4 Series is a GT, a Grand Touring car, not an uncompromising sports car. A paltry 250 extra pounds is a small price to pay for the Grand Touring luxury of choosing with a flick of a switch, between top down and real coupe with a full size glass backlight. It was that true coupe experience that lured me away from an awesome V8 in a Mustang or Camaro convertible (and from a bigger chunk of my bank account) and to not even bother looking at Audi or Mercedes. |
