You sound like me. They can pry my dino-burners from my cold dead hands. I'm not paying 50k+ for an appliance. There's an emotional component. The electric cars leave me feeling numb. For 20-30k, sure appliance it is. 85+, no fucking way am I dropping the coin for something that doesn't get me going in that irrational way.

100% agreed. An electric car elicits as much emotional excitement as an iPad, which is to say none whatsoever.

Agreed. My iPad elicits no emotional excitement whatsoever. It just works without drama.

I'm a millennial and I don't get my cohort...I don't even have an iPad...but I can say without a doubt no iPhone or MacBook has ever or will ever put the same shit-eating adolescent grin on my face that the M4 does. Hell, I could get that grin out of the pre-turbo W115 1976 300D I had. Different circumstances...same grin.

I drove a Prius for 10 years and hated it. I'm driving a four popper 330i and can't get enough.

Never going back to a golf cart again, even if it has Tesla written on it.

I'm sure BMW is shitting their pants due to Tesla really.

they can't even file a proper 10q in time to show their "profit" while their entire finance team quits. I'm sure the g20 will also have an electric variant as well.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say the g20 will matter for much longer than Tesla will.

Majority of the e-cars owners own an ICE vehicle.
Until e-cars come down to the price of a Mazda 3 or Honda Civic, it will be seen as a niche. It'll be interesting to see how the sales of e-cars when the subsidies stop. I know Tesla was so concerned that they took Ontario gov. to court (and won) because of potential sale losses (see Denmark I think).

No one drives around racing their Teslas at the sight of another vehicle. Unless one is insecure. At that burn rate, the Model S/3/X system will shut down nor go further. Audi's e-Tron seems pretty good. BMW has a few e-car models. Auto mfgs do not need to beat Tesla, they just have to outlast it which I think isn't too hard thanks to Elon.

e-cars are probably here to stay. ICE will eventually be toys for the rich. See horseback riding and equestrian.

To even put a Prius in the same category as a tesla is completely laughable. I drive one of those soul eaters for my daily 98 mile commute and the comparison is ridiculous. The only thing they have in common is that they have 4 wheels.....

You are correct about the main auto manufactures needing to outlast Tesla, honestly I don't see how they have lasted this long, however you can't deny that Tesla has spurred some real change in the industry. From electric cars to the way they sell them Tesla has some innovation in what they do. The point is when are the majors going to get on the ball. The i3 frankly sucks. I have had one for an extended 3 day test drive on two separate occasions. The range is deplorable, the pizza pan tires give you screwy handling and lets not even get started on the looks of the thing. If Tesla could get their product manufacturing process a little but more squared away and put shut down Elon's Twitter account they would be killing it. We keep hearing about the i5 or inext from BMW and frankly I want to wait for them before I get on the electric bandwagon, but they are making it really hard and I'm tired of having to go to the gas station. I'd much rather get in my car in my own garage every day as see a full battery every morning.

Well an "e" variant for BMW means a hybrid. One with crap for performance and frankly crap for mileage especially for what you pay for the thing.

Well I'm far from a millennial and I can tell you that a Model 3 performance would eat your M4 for lunch.

I have to admit...I'm a tech guy own apple everything and I work on F-18 Avionics systems for a living, don't get me wrong, I love BMW I have owned 5 and would love to own an M car, but I wish BMW would get off its a$$ and build a proper electric car.

I have no doubt it would. I never said anything about the M3P...see other threads where I praise it. I think it's awesome and almost ordered one.

Sorry if I mis-represented your post, it seems as though you were equating the Model3 to an iPad or iphone. Personally I love the M3/4.

Yea, I realize how it came off that way. I think the M3P would be fun...the only thing it doesn't have going for it is the absurd/unnecessary factor since it's actually quite practical. That wasn't the reason I went with the M. For me, it was a range/seat/heated steering wheel (don't start, I love it and I don't care what anyone says) driven decision.

LOL I have to agree about the heated seats...once I have had a car with that kind of tech its hard to go back.. Had rental a few weeks ago that I kept trying to unlock by grabbing the door handle....how uncivilized...you mean I have to use a key!! Frankly I think the Model 3 pales in comparison to the M3/4 in a lot of ways. Especially how it looks.

I could get heated seats on the Tesla...it was the lack of heated steering wheel that really killed it. The seats too would have been a total slide/slosh fest given how well the car performs. The M3/4 cloth seats hold you in really well!

the model 3 can outdrag an M3
has ridiculous 0-60 #s
a big built-in advantage.. low center of gravity
tune the suspension alil bit and voilla.. M-killer

look at the roadster 0-60 in 1.9s max speed 250..
the OP is right.. Teslas are putting petrols to shame

The only reason why I'm not getting a Tesla Model 3 is because I don't like how it looks (interior & exterior). I just want it to look like a normal car. And all of that blame goes to the stupid tree-huggers. I'm a tree-hugger myself but I don't want my car to stand out. I don't want the world to know I drive electric. Also car manufacturers need to stop listening to them on the design. Just make the damn car look normal and make it electric. If they took the F30 or G20 and just made it electric would buy it even if the range was only 150 miles.
