I could maybe look past the horrendous grill and the Lexus rear end styling, but the new digital gauge cluster just kills it for me.
I get that the iPad esque look sells cars now I guess, but damn BMW. I'll miss those classic orange analog (semi) gauges. Wish there was an option to retain the analog. |

I am in the same boat in regards with BMW: design wise is not a success, they got expensive in price, yet very cheap in materials. Luxury means leather, cushy materials, no crickets, reliability, choice of customization and for Gods Sake colors. Inside colors, outside colors and between. White, black, silver, and blue and other blues are overly played. Pretty sad, not to mention after my engine blowing up at 80,000 km, I am slowly realizing that BMW is not what use to be. |

I find myself underwhelmed by this car.
I don't even like starting off this sentence with, I remember when the E46 came out, I was fawning at how perfect that car looked. Everything since then has been, eh. Almost every car is meh. They aren't making cars anymore that I want to print out posters and hang on my wall. I'm going to stick with the oldies. Or move on to a Porsche.

The video is in Mandarin, but gives some really nice close-ups and angles that haven't been shown before. I think it will look pretty handsome in real life. His commentary is actually really good.

Have you owned a new generation Audi? The MMI system is literally a copy of iDrive. Also the diamond stitched leather in the A4/A5 is leaps and bounds ahead of BMW's plain boring seats. The new gen 3 brings BMW A LOT closer to Audi.

What really grinds my gears about Audi interiors though is the cheap plastic they use for the steering wheel buttons that control radio and the digital dash. The second thing that grind my gears are the cheap plastic speaker grilles. It's really annoying having the same plastic speaker covers that VW uses in their $18,000 and have Audi use it in their $70,000 car.
Did I mention 58% of the weight of the car is over the front wheels and the car plows like a cow? |

Uh, no. The Bangle series of cars (e90.e60.etc) broke with that tradition but whatever.

I just watched the video with the German presenter. The car looks better in the video than in the pictures. I still think that kidney design is awful / oversized but if they have a black vertical slatted option like what was photoshopped here it'll look better. I'm not sure if you guys noticed but the center of the front end protrudes quite a bit when you look at it from the side as well.
Does anyone else find the car overall looks massive?

Jason, could this be the first time locking one of your own threads due to the relentless negativity of this BMW model? Unprecedented perhaps.
That said, the car is an eyesore. Initial reviews say it's a dynamically better driver's car than the F30; BMW regained its mojo. It better drive like a Porsche or I can see another generational step-back.

Probably time to close this sub-forum as it's clear the number of people who like this car, want it to exist, even want other people to have it as a choice, is down in the single figures. |

They should "lock" this thread for sure. I believe it to be proof that BMW has lost it's way. Every model tries to further distance itself from what makes a BMW a BMW.
To each their own. I'm not gonna tell everyone on here that they have to hate it, but not even a troll can argue with the fact that this model shares more things that are unlike BMW than things that are. IMO- that gauge cluster is Chevrolet-esque. (As I vomited a little in my mouth)

No "trapezoidal-douche" cluster here. Idk, just seems nail the concept of keeping the soul of the car alive to me.

I am the biggest fanboi of BMW, and after owning 3, I will be in my last BMW which is the M2CS. BMW has lost their mojo. I just have to admit it.
Meanwhile at Audi, I have found my first Audi, the Etron GT. That is how you design a modern car. It may not have the driving dynamics but I don't expect much from EVs anyway but at least I will be turning around multiple times as I park and walk away from it. |
