The wrx isnt really considered a classic hot hatch in europe. Also being on the impreza platform with its origin as a small sedan.
The 'hatchback' shape wrx is more of a compact estate than a classical hatchback (for instance having a D pillar, although some newer hatches seem to get that now too), and I think never have been made as a 3 door (instead a 2 door coupe, makes sense as the impreza is originally a sedan platform)

Wow. I can't fault your logic at all... As an Australian it's feels comical to refer to the 2-door WRX as coupe, given our first car that comes to mind when someone says "coupe" in Australia is a Holden Monero. - but you are right. The WRX sedan is a sedan, and the 2-door is the same car but with 2 doors.

In Australia the WRX was the car that defined the hot-hatch category for a decade or two

i remember seeing little hot hatches in Paris...Audi, Renault, Citroen, Peugeot, VW, etc.

Really jealous we don't get those little cars here. Not only are they fun but they look really fkin slick!

.. hold my beer. I'm gunna go start a poll about American Muscle Cars (I'm guessing you folk just call them "muscle cars") that doesn't include Pontiac or Ford.
The poll is based upon personal experiences. Of course it can't be complete. After 24 votes there are just 5 for "Other" so the selection shouldn't be too bad...

I guess its only natural that 'hot hatch culture' evolves differently around the world depending on the cars that are available.
Here in europe there has always been an abundance of sooped up b or c class hatchbacks from virtually any brand. Most brands have at least 2 or sometimes 3 models in their range, so at any time there are maybe 20 or 30 on the market in varying popularity.

Didn't like the seats too much, that seems to be an arguing point between R owners. I'm not personally fond of the vinyl like material they used for the seats, wasn't extremely comfortable and often causes my back to sweat (which doesn't happen in other cars). Ironically I traded it in for an M3 CS so I made a 3 hour trip to drive the Golf R north to trade it in and a 5 hour drive back home (lots of traffic at one point) with the CS. The CS honestly feel like it was a creamier ride, it ironed out the bumps a lot more compared to the Golf which was a little bit more fiddly? Jiggly? Didn't iron out the small bumps as much, so even in comfort mode it's a bit meh.

Don't get me wrong, this is a fun car on the canyons, auto-crossing I'm sure it's hilariously good fun, but it just wasn't ideal. Turbo lag is going to be an issue for some as well likely.

Thats goat as in.... https://itstillruns.com/gto-called-goat-6659054.html

Which actually brings this thread full circle, the best hot hatch is ofcourse a Prancing Horse! Tough to decide between an FF or GTC Lusso thou!
I do wish bmw did make a tru competitor to the FF or GTC, till then im enjoying my m35i which is as close as I could get, the VW while cute is just too small

As a previous Z3 M Coupe owner, I want to live the FF/GTC, but it's huge and ugly. I'd have a Breadvan through.

In unrelated news, saw a nice 575 this morning, still think that's my Fezza goal.

Acquired taste but i think they are awesome! Yes it wouldnt be my first Prancing ahorse but if i had the ability id have one in my stable!
As for 575, great great looking but they cant match a Porsche nor Ferrari in any way from a driving perspective. They are getting cheap now too...

Pcar first and hopefully a Prancing Horse when the time is right

I want a manual V12, I could care less what's faster or handles better. Unfortunately, while prices for the dumb single clutch autos have dropped, manuals continue to go higher.

Not many options in your case!

Perhaps looks for an e63 S85, that V10 was massive and you can find a manual...

Flat6 with an MT is all I need

Then you need to state that in your OP. As it looks now, it's incomplete and, therefore, not worth the time for anyone who knows hot hatches.

Please try again. Good day.

Hot Hatches live a long tradition. I drove a GTI myself. But I'd choose a BMW anytime...

I think you really can't ask for a full compedium of hot hatches here - the poll is offers the most important manufacurers so far
so what...

No it doesnt. It doesnt feature Renault and Peugeot. They are imho after VW the most important manufacturers of hot hatches.
After that Ford and Opel (another one thats missing).
And Honda of course....
