Optional M340i High Gloss Black Kidney Grilles

So, using the Canadian M340i configurator, I built the Mineral White M340i I ordered, and I found something rather disturbing.

When I added the all-black kidney grills, I thought I would see what is in the second picture below. Instead, however, it turns out that the mesh M340i grills also have a high gloss black version. And, in my opinion it's kind of ugly.

Too late to change order? Thoughts?

I'm struggling with the same. I think there is going to be a lot of after market grills for the G20.

The regular M340 grille don't look to bad in my opinion I think it'll grow on me but good lord the all black one is disgusting.... I regret ordering it with my car.. it'll be interesting to see what aftermarket options there will be

I feel like since the kidneys are so big now it would almost look better in a matte black with the vertical slats.

I think there might be three grilles for the M340i. The stock, the all black and M Performance.

For Canadian order of m340i, this $250 black pkg gives you black version of ugly grilles, black front bumper vent surrounding, black mirror caps and black fake exhaust surrounding. (I know the configurator still shows grey parts, but is is just a system bug)

Although the grilles still look like sh1t, this $250 pkg is worth it IMO since it is harder to change bumper vent and exhaust surrounding afterwards. I will buy a 330i black grilles or have dealer factor into my deal.

Didn't realize the bumper vents were that cerium color as well. That's going to be a pain, but maybe I could just get them wrapped.

Is it worth it though? Just $250 dollars, you can get bumper trim in black, mirror cap is black and tail surrounding in black and the grilles in black. I think it costs at least 150 to wrap the trim, mirror and tail pipe surround. If you wrap yourself, it will be more time consuming and pain. If you are leasing you only pay 42% of 250 dollars (58% residual for 3yr/48000km) plus discount. I think it is worth it to get it from factory

I ordered my car already, its at the port - too late to add the option. Will consider buying it after based on how much of a pain it will be to install.

Ok, I don't think US configurator offer a black grille or trim option. I don't see it there

If you at look close up pictures of an M340i such as this one:

You can see that, beneath the mesh outer piece, the edges of the active shutters appear to line up with where the slats would otherwise be, such as on this 330i M Sport, for example:

Given this, it would seem that it would be possible to switch to the traditional slatted grill with no problem.

The question is, can you just buy that piece, or does it only come with the outer grill surround? I suppose the mesh could perhaps even be "permanently" attached to the grill surround - a look at the parts diagrams would probably address that specific possibility.

Either way, if they are only packaged and shipped together, there would be little point in ordering (either for port install or dealer install) the black M340i grill with the mesh pattern if you eventually want to switch to the slatted grill. Because, in that case, in order to switch to the slats, you'd end up buying/replacing the whole thing anyway.

Ok, I’m doing it. I like the M340i grill, but I’d like a black one with slats better. I did have a funny thought: install the black 330i grill and rebadge my M340i to a 330i for a sleeper vibe.
