How to get a good deal? % off or X below invoice?

Long time forum member here, its been a while since the last lease, and now looking at the new 3 series again, coming from a F10 5 series.

How are you guys targeting a good price...

$200- $1000 below invoice is a wash between $50k vs $60K vehicle, and it almost does not make much sense to compare.

Are you targeting % off, say 9-11% or something else from MSRP, when you look for a reasonable deal?

It has been 2.5 years since my last lease, so could use a refresher on the latest shopping strategy. Thanks a bunch!

Aim for 10% off, it’s easily doable, at least in the Philly area

Make a reasonable offer to the dealer - it's that simple. You don't have to prepare a long story - just ask for what you want and keep it professional.

Don't try to squeeze 330i pricing out of a m340i, it's not reasonable. Lastly, remember, it's a business the dealer needs to make some money as well.

If you want to lease then: provide the money factor, residual value, and selling price. This will let the dealer know you have done your homework, and it's quite possible the transaction will be a simple order, deposit, and production number situation (no up selling no sales person BS)

But if it was a question, I meant to say 10% off MSRP before any lease credits or incentives are applied.

Including discounts, lease cash, loyalty, OL code, CCA credit, I ended up with 16.3% off MSRP.

Sure, I did, one post does not generalize the whole market. I have been around here on these forums for long enough to see a change in trend. Dealerships still make you feel you are getting a "GREAT" deal with $500- $1000 below invoice on a stock car. 46K car maybe good deal, 60k car not so good deal. I have been leasing since 2009, for myself and a family member, but the game has changed looks like OR the forum members have "graduated" to beyond X below invoice with some insider info.

Good advise, this is my 7th BMW lease, couldn't agree more to doing my homework, glad I learned a lot about these gotchas from this forum back in 2009 for my first BMW lease

Loyalty can be replaced by conquest if you don't have a BMW already, but the rest don't need any other qualification.

Unfortunately conquest is $1000 less than loyalty.

The easiest way to get the price you want is prove to sales that the price is possible and makes sense. Simple as that. The easiest way to not get what you want is say I want 10% off because some random guy on the internet got it.

I think thats what most people who frequent this forum do because they don't know how a deal is structured financially to calculate what amounts are possible and/or too lazy to calculate anything so they go in saying they want x or y because the internet said so.

I agree. I go into any conversation with a deal sheet already built in Excel/Numbers and I know what is reasonable and achievable from all the great information in these forums.

In my most recent deal (this past couple weeks) - I had all the numbers in front of me and I was very open with the CA about this. I did have to call them out on a marked up MF and their paperwork took me 2 days, several emails with sales manager, and one phone call to understand. This was frustrating but I got through it.

Once the numbers lined up with my deal sheet, I pulled the trigger immediately.

Ended up with >12% off MSRP (dealer discount + BMW incentives). This was before tax. (TX requires sales tax paid upfront, not rolled into payment.)

If you know your numbers, it's mostly pain-free.

If you don't mind me asking what dealer you used. I'm in Central PA and I've tried to make a deal with Turnersville in NJ just south of PHilly. They are actingy like a 6.2% discount is some monumental favor. The dealer actually claimed it was $1500 under invoice.

I recently placed an order for my 2020 G20 xDrive. with MSRP and TT&L included, it would've been about 54K. I negotiated it down to 47 OTD. One thing that helps is to start a bid war. Go to one dealership, test drive a car and negotiate on a price. Then just talk to other dealerships in the area and tell them what you were offered and ask if they can do better. Just be professional and courteous.

I finally picked up my M340 today.
Adding some details here in case anyone finds the experience helpful.

Ended up with 10.5% off pre-incentives for a custom order. Took two months from order to delivery. Used the latest July programs that came out today since numbers were better overall (0.00145 MF vs. last month's 0.00165) even though lease cash went down ($1000 instead of $1250). I used MSDs to bring MF down to 0.00110).

My OL code had applicability criteria that mentioned Model year 2018 and 2019 vehicles, so it could not be used unfortunately. The dealership tried to run it though.

Since I plan to apply for CCA rebate, I decided to put down $366 ($500 rebate minus $134 membership fee), which brought the monthly for my $65,820 build for 36/15K miles including 9% sales tax to $668 a month. Idea was that this monthly payment would more accurately reflect my actual discount.

Just to amuse myself, I added another $50 down to bring the payment down to $666 even a month

Many thanks to Eric Salem and Kim Huntzinger at BMW of Reading, PA who made this happen.

Here are my numbers in more detail if anyone is interested: http://www.leasehackr.com/calculator...Tax_radio=true

Just got lucky I guess
I know better discounts could have been had in NJ (so I've heard), but they have a high dealer fee.
BMW of Reading, surprisingly, did not have one.

Nice, I'll have to keep BMW of Reading in mind. Yeah, I've seen some pretty impressive discounts in NJ, but that $599 dealer fee kills some of that...

I found reading difficult to get a deal with. The most they offered was 5.5% off. I ended going to Baltimore and got a much better deal than what most of the PA dealers were offering.

FYI PA caps the doc fee at $144.
