I didn't read all 95 pages. - So there is a dyno of a Supra in the states that shows 339rwhp and 427 ft lbs. (car and driver link above) - Your own dyno test showed a peak of 373.5 rwhp and 425 ft lbs (North American spec M40i) - I'm assuming that the 376hp Supra dyno posted by Supra93 a few posts back includes a factor to convert the dyno to crank hp? Otherwise the two Supra dynos are quite different. I am interested to see a dyno of the Euro spec M40i but for that drag test to show a .5 sec advantage to the Supra means the M40i had to be down a significant amount of power. ......not that Car Wow's results are very scientific. I don't see this as a rivalry at all; they are basically the same car after all. I am excited for the increased aftermarket activity for both cars that having the Supra will undoubtably generate. I'm also curious to decipher what BMW actually did with the tunes on the three (four?) different setups. Cheers, Dave Last edited by DPelletier; 07-09-2019 at 03:04 PM.. |

According to BMW; so I'm not sure where the claim that there are B58B30O1 Supra's comes from? ...and if all Supras had the 382hp version then why did the Car and Driver dyno show less hp than Joe's M40i? .....there still seems to be a fair bit of confusion on the whole thing Dave |

I think everyone is missing some things here. My Dyno of the M40i May show higher numbers than the Supra Dyno, but these numbers are mute because they were takin at different environmental conditions (ambient temp, cooling fan setup, humidity, altitude, etc.). While they give a relative idea, mine showing more HP doesn’t equate to faster times.
Look at that drag race for instance. Off the line, BMW tunes for more wheel spin than the Supra. And from a roll, the Supra pulls at higher RPM which is why it took a minute before it started pulling the M40i. The tunes were made for different environments all together. The Supra is meant more for the autocross/track where it’s more likely to stay in higher RPM. The M40i is a cruiser where it’ll spend most of its time in the low to mid RPM. The fact the EU Supra beat the EU M40i doesn’t surprise me because of this. Sure the US M40i puts out more HP, but that still doesn’t equate to faster. The US M40i might be faster 0-60 and in the quarter, but I still wouldn’t be surprised if the Supra edged ahead. I do think the times should be much closer together though and until the Supra starts delivery stateside we won’t know. I will say this, my Dragy showed me 4.1 0-60 with a quarter of 12.35 which is much closer to what the Supra put down for that drag race. To me, it only makes sense that Toyota published the power figures of the stock engine on BMW tuning, but they most likely tuned it to hit higher target values after the fact because they’d be crucified for letting a convertible clone be the faster of the two all the time (JDM bois are ruthless I’ve noticed). |

Time will tell, I suppose. Of course the Supra guys are all pumped about them getting the -O1 shortly. ....if so, it must be because it makes more power....otherwise, why bother? Dave |

I seen it so won't spoil it for you. But BMW is referenced quite a bit in the review.

In summation, I don't think the dealer actually thinks they are going to get that much over MSRP. I think they just want to keep one in stock.

Has this thing gotten any actual track numbers yet? Didn’t read this whole thread but I’m waiting to see times from the usual tracks like Laguna, VIR, Ring...
