Keep having Apple Pay triggered!
Another annoyance I'm having with my non-wireless charging car, is that my iPhone keeps triggering Apple Pay sitting on the NFC tray.
First, I'm not sure how that got by quality control, and secondly, I'm not sure how that is rectified by BMW. I don't even bother putting my phone in there now because it turns the screen on, and it won't turn off because it thinks it is in the presence of a pay point. Anyone else having this problem? |

This is actually nothing to do with BMW and everything to do with Apple.
ApplePay first rolled out as being the only NFC functionality of the iPhone. As such, whenever an iPhone detects an NFC tag/area, ApplePay automatically pops up on the screen. If you want to prevent your iPhone from exhibiting this behavior, follow the below steps: https://lifehacker.com/how-to-stop-a...ent-1787003061 |

No, I can definitely still use NFC in the same tray with the wireless charger option.
However, I speculate that it's a different piece of hardware--NFC reader vs NFC reader integrated into wireless charger. And therefore may behave a little different. Edit: I shouldn't speak for others. Last edited by JimmXinu; 07-14-2019 at 10:32 PM.. Reason: Correct pronouns. |

All I can say is that I absolutely have wireless charging AND the card but I honestly don't know if there are different versions of the charger and / card.

I can confirm that I have this same issue with my iPhone, and I don't have wireless charging.
I'm guessing that if the wireless charger detects a phone and gets activated, then either the NFC capability inside the pad is shut-off or perhaps the magnetic wave of the charger overpowers the NFC wave. |

Yes. It sends you to the "Set up Apple Pay" screen.
Same deal for me. Both in iOS12 and the latest iOS13 Beta on my XSMax. AFAIK, there is no way to disable NFC in iOS. I use ApplePay regularly, so even if there was an option to disable NFC, I probably wouldn't. It's unfortunate that there isn't some option to just disable NFC on the iDrive side since I have zero need for it in my car. If there was a connector to unplug or a wire to snip, I would. I've chosen to just ignore it. The screen times out and goes back to sleep after a minute or so. I have no idea how often it wakes up on a long drive, but I've not noticed any significant battery drain because of it. Last edited by Delta5; 07-18-2019 at 10:17 AM.. |

This could be depending on both BMW and Apple.
Apple allows 3rd party apps to integrate with direct NFC reading of certain types of NFC tags. And NFC writing as well in iOS 13. If the tag that's used for Digital Key is accessible by 3rd party apps, then ConnectedDrive can be updated to integrate with it directly to avoid being recognized by iOS system level as Apple Pay. |
