Picked up my new 330e - Fuel consumption and electric range tested

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Thursday I picked up my new 330e. I believe some are curious about the fuel consumption and range, as I was too. So, yesterday I used all the battery for the first time, from 100% to one km range left.

Here are the results:

Total driven : 125km
Total electric : 51km
Fuel consumption : 4,6 liters/100km
Av speed : 60kmh

A total of 80km of the 125km was done on the motorway at 140-155kmh. Under those conditions, the fuel consumption is 6-6,5 liters/100km, which for me was very surprising for a car of this weight with a turbo petrol engine. It is the same as a similar powered diesel. It is so fuel efficient that the 40 liter tank is not a problem anymore for me, I’ve now gone 400km and still have more than half a tank left. And most of that has been on the motorway, driven normally/fast all the time - I didn't try to save any fuel or battery.

51km on battery alone? Without charging it from the engine at all?
My 2017 330e was doing 3.6L/100 on my work commute which was 46km round trip and more or less one way in electric alone.

Went for a drive in the dealer's demo G20 330e, loving the xtraboost for sure and now I'm eagerly awaiting on my G20 330e, 2 weeks of hell

One thing I don't get is the F30 was classed at 5.9s to 100 (same as the 330i) and the G20 is 6.5s but the 330i is still 5.9s

I'm not sure, half I did in electric mode, and half were done on hybrid mode.

Today I drove in electric mode 20 klms at 120 kmh with AC on and used 40% of the battery, so I guess at this speed the range is around 45 klms in purely electric.

I cannot wait to use the xtraboost mode, but must end the run in first.

G20 330e is quoted at 5,9 seconds, BMW says this new G20 is 30% faster than the F30 330e, you felt the difference?

Were you told about the run in? On the F30 they told me that's not needed.
But yeah I took the G20 on the motorway and tried xtraboost on and off and for sure there is a torque difference between the two, and the BMW genius beside me didn't seem to mind me pushing 190

G20 is 6.5s to 100 according to BMW UK site, where did you find 5.9s since on paper is technically slower. I've asked BMW this several times and no one knows why

5,9 for 100kmh 6,5 for 60mph. Would be my guess. Dutch brochures and document say 5,9 .

No but I read the manual, until 2000 klms no more than 4500 rpm and 160 kmh.

Also other person here picked a new G20 330e at the Munich factory, and the BMW employee told him to not pass 3500 rpm on the first 1000 klms, always start the car in S/M, and respect the run in process until 2000 klms.

The information on the UK site is wrong, correct information is 5,9 to 100 kmh/62mph, you can check everywhere else and believe in what I'm saying, even in the German website which always has these informations first and is always the most correct says 5,9, you have the technical data sheet there. The Spanish website also has the same mistake as the UK I think. 0-60 mph time will be around 5,5 seconds.

Yesterday I did a new test in fully electric mode at 120kmh with AC on, I drove 20 klms and in the end I still had 25 klms of range left, I didn't start with exactly with 100% battery but close, and have used around 40%.

Well I love the new design, but still very happy with my 2018 F30 330e since I installed a Sprintbooster unit and a Ventura Tuning Box, now I’m 314Hp and 518 Nm.
Never go less than 9,5 liters each 100Km but very very happy 😃

I drove at 130kmh during 70 klms, the other 15 klms of this trip I did in electric, total average was 4,6 liters/100km and used 15 klms of electric range.

They're going to be an interesting prospect on the used market I think. Particularly because it's the same base engine as a 330i. Dialing them up to that kind of level shouldnt present much trouble on the aftermarket, although it'll be interesting to see how the transmission holds up.

Of course, it is the same reason why we bought the 330e aswell, but it way better than a 320d anyway, and way way cheaper in Portugal as you know.

it has the same power as the 320i, but the engine is the same as in the 330i and not the 320i, only detuned.

Is the same 2.0 engine but the 330i is more tuned, like the 318d and the 320d, same 2.0 engine but 318d with 150hp and 320d with 190hp.

In Portugal the 330i goes up to 78/80 K, too much money, and my F30 330e runs faster than a normal F30 330i.

After 20% Fleet discount and VAT discount it cost only 38K , less than the new G40 118d 150Hp (39K)

R U shure that 100HP plus in a 2.0 Engine with an electric engine in the clunch is safe? Everything is possible, but is it safe for the engine?

DuartG yes the new g20 zf8-hp can make up to 1000nm like most
but in 330e with tunning you are about 550 nm no problem at all

its same gearbox like m340 g20 i they make tuning to almost 500hp to that car
the new 8HP50 Transmission is great
