I think the m340i caters to a specific customer. Seems like a good jump from f30 to g20 on this specific model. I’ve always noticed a HUGE difference between the mid tier 3 series model and M3. That’s M magic honestly so can’t wait to drive the g80

I traded in my f80 for the m340i. They are very different cars, in speed, handling...and luxury. I wanted something quick (tough to beat the raw power of the f80), more luxurious and more comfortable. I feel that's the target BMW is going for, with the m340i. The f80 is a great car if you want raw power. The car pulls like freight train...it just keeps going. I had it for 2 years and only fully opened it up, twice. I don't track my cars, so for me, it was a bit excessive. The m340i provides ample speed and handling, while being comfortable, with great tech features. I just wish it looked as nice as the f80. Once I lower it a bit and add personal touches. I'll enjoy looking at it, more.

He means 335. 355 is the number on the 340i with mppsk (F30). Didn't know there was a torque bump on the 540i, but the bigger car could use more engine, though I guess they want you to shell out for the 550i if you want that. Though M340i power in the 540i would still keep it below the M550 especially after the bump in power.

BMW did well in making something for everyone. It's already been established that the M2C is the best drivers car BMW currently makes. Even then, the M2C is not ideal for everyone.

Regarding torque bump, thought my non mppsk had 450NM, and the newer ones has 500NM |

For a daily driver, the M340i is likely to be easier to live with, eg auto rather than DCT, especially when parking. But as a performance car, you all know which is the more thrilling drive.

This thread was about quarter mile times so my comment was regarding that specifically.

I think the F80 would be faster around the track based on my experience driving them both (on the street) but I could be wrong. Who knows.
