[B46] Bootmod3 Stage 1 w/ 93 Octane on G20 First Impressions
To put my views and thoughts on the G20 into perspective, I want to start off by saying that this is the first car I have ever modded, it was the third BMW (E60 528i & F25 X3 before G20) I have driven at the time, and since I have never driven any older E generation BMWs, the G20 330i is also the best BMW I’ve driven to date. I’ve driven a F generation 430i and a G generation X2 recently (both were loaners) and I think the steering on the 430i was tighter than the G20, but everything else on the G20 is better than both those cars by a fair margin.
Stage 1 on G20 is very refined. Any jerkiness that happens while on JB+ or stock is no longer there. The power delivery is superb. In low speed ranges, typically between 0-100km/h the car feels like it accelerates at the same rate when shifting from 1st to 4th. I feel like on the JB+, the first three gears pull more than stock for sure, but 4th is where you start to feel the car slowing in acceleration. With BM3, 4th gear gives you that same feeling as the first three gears. The 4th gear pulls quick in the 0-100km/h range. If I did the math correctly, on paper I should be making 300HP/370LBFT TQ right now. I don’t know what that translates to for 0-100 times but it’s a huge difference from stock, and very noticeable coming from JB+. I’ve heard someone say in another thread that JB+ on G20 did 0-100 in 4.9 seconds, so BM3 must be even faster than that. Regarding whether or not BM3 is worth it, it is definitely worth it if you want a power increase that can go all the way up to stage 2 just with a high flow downpipe, all for $800 CAD. And for the people comparing JB+ and BM3, the bump in speed difference from JB+ to BM3 is the same or even more than the speed bump from stock to JB+. I don’t have a dragy but I guess I could update you guys with a OBD2 0-100 timer. Let me know if you guys have any questions, I will try my best to get back to you. Sigh. There goes my hopes of not modding this car.....
I thought I’d get a Jb+ but yea. Looks like I’m going to spend $600 for the Bm3. And my car hasn’t even done 150 miles yet. |

Though, who are am I kidding, we would still mod it if it came with 300. It's just how it goes. OP keep us up to date on how it goes!

I have an update.
So it was raining out earlier tonight when I went out for a quick drive, and on the way back, I saw a F Sport Lexus SUV (I don't know if it was powerful or not because I was following him pretty tight with ease) but he was going pretty fast, so I overtook him but while doing that I was losing traction up top. When pushing 4th Gear at around 140km/h I started losing traction around 4k RPM. I am also on winter tires so I don't know how they perform in the rain, but there's one way I thought about fixing this, and that's putting a boost by gear % reduction configuration in BM3. I don't know if that is my solution? If anyone has any experience with the 'boost by gear % reduction' setting in BM3, please let me know if I can fix it by reducing my boost in 4th gear. I have the day off tomorrow so I'm gonna try and test this maybe, go for some runs and see if it improves, but it's not rainy tomorrow so I may not have the traction problem, anyhow, I will update when I go for some runs tomorrow. While I'm here, below are snaps of my car, I have done most of the things I've wanted to do with this car, I'm at a point where I just want to drive it for awhile and just have fun with it. Enjoy these |

Update:
Re-flashed ECU with new settings (10% boost reduction in 4th gear) and the problem is now fixed, no more loss of traction and car keeps pulling till 170km/h+, however, still losing a bit of traction in 5th when putting 100% throttle and rolling into 3,500-4000RPM range. Might re-flash tomorrow with 10% boost reduction in 5th gear, probably will have no more problems then... Or.. maybe I can keep it so I fishtail lol. Also rode on the highway a lot today and the car is super quick, saw a bad driver in a Golf while I was merging onto the highway, he didn't slow down or switch into the other lane to let me in, he was speeding up in the right lane, the one right beside the merging lane.. After merging, I moved over and full throttled past the VW and it felt pretty effortless, was doing about 180 in just a few seconds after merging. If you have the windows down the turbo spool and intake sounds insane, even when stock. The turbo spools at much lower RPMs than stock. Last edited by g20beam; 11-23-2019 at 03:39 AM.. |

Hi guys,
Got another small update. Did a highway cruise from east to west of Ontario, the whole way was probably around 90km there and 90km back.. While on BM3 Stage 1 with a boost reduction of 10% in both 4th and 5th gear with winter tires on. Now it drives beautifully, very smooth, no hiccups. Drove it that way there and back, no problems at all. Top speed I did was around 180km/h, car was still smooth. Traffic didn’t allow me to push further however. Everything runs great. I want to see how it holds up in the long term though |

It shows real numbers and pretty accurately. I don’t know about stock but in stage 1, my sport display bars show up to 400 for both tq and hp, and for mine when I’m full throttle shows 370 tq and 315 hp.

Ahhh. I had no idea. Stock my car shows 320 hp. I don’t remember what the tq figures were. Probably 320. I’ll check later today and update here.

Hi everyone,
So if you’ve been following this thread, I’ve been updating about BM3 basically on a daily basis, and since the 330i is my daily driver, I’m doing all I can on my spare time to get it to drive the best it can. Also, because I am in Toronto, we get a lot of snow each year. Ever since I flashed BM3 Stage 1 93 octane, I’ve been having traction issues when putting too much boost in gear. And also because of the snow/ice on the roads, my traction is further affected by the road conditions. This pushed me to spend time perfecting a tweaked stage 1 flash that has boost by gear reduction on it. I have basically reduced boost in every gear, so that the car no longer skids when accelerating. So far the car drives beautifully and it’s been really snowy out and I’ve been having no problems since the reflash. My settings goes as follows if anyone wants to drive in the snow with more control with a BM3 tune: 1st: 30% 2nd: 20% 3rd: 10% 4th: 10% 5th: 20% 6th: 10% FYI I am also running Dunlop Winter Maxx 2 Winter Tires. They perform great in the snow to get you moving but it starts to waver when accelerating faster than you should. But the braking is really nice and so is turning. There is a lot of grip and you feel really planted to the ground. Anyone else drive in the snow in a JB+/JB4/BM3 tuned G20? You are making a lot of torque without boost reduction and unless you are on dry land with all season performance tires I’m pretty sure you’ll run into traction issues with 370tq and 315hp. |

I don’t think there are many with tuned G20 330is (I only know of you and one other person on another forum but he hasn’t said much about the tune). You’re the only one who keeps updating us.
And yes. Snow plays spoilsport when it comes to traction, especially with a tuned car. It’s nice to know you can change boost yourself to suit your needs. Btw, when you bought BM3, did you choose the option for all maps? Or one free map. |

When I bought BM3, I only bought the Stage 1 93 OTS map, no bundle. I’m considering the bundle if I get a downpipe. Speaking of downpipes; if anyone on this forum is familiar with stage 1 tune and downpipes, I want to ask, how bad will my cats wear if I continue to run stage 1 93 map with OTS exhaust burble settings? Or will I be fine running stock cats with no catless DP on stage 1? |
