Honestly, there are so many variables it is very hard to say. What I find VERY interesting is how much 'progress' have we really made engine wise over the last 20-30 years? Perhaps direct injection, maybe some weight savings? Look what Mitsubishi, Subaru and others were doing with stock 2 litre turbo engines decades ago.

Pumping more than 20 psi in an engine with stock internals, fairly high compression, and a relatively lean AFR seems like a recipe for disaster in my understanding but I am by no means an expert

My best ‘guess’ would be if you have 98+ RON fuel, weather that is 75’F or lower year round and don’t track your car you should be fine. Let your car warm up properly before hitting it hard and let her cool down before shutting off after a good thrashing and you will probably be OK. But, the fuel and weather are key variables if you want to just turn up the boost 3-5 psi.

In my humble opinion of course.

That is me. I remote start my car and let her idle for atleast a minute or two. I even drive around like a granny for a few minutes before driving fast. I also drive around like a granny for a few minutes before the car turns off. No racing or tracking for me.

Ya of course I only put 93 rating Costco gas in my car and treat it like my baby haha. I also don't take the Revs above 3k rpm for a few minutes on cold starts. Just super confused between JB+ and BM3 since I'm on a lease. I might just go for JB+ tbh.

If youre on a tune you should make sure to change that 0w20, i would go for a 0w30/5w30/0w40. If youre in hot climate a 5w40 would be my pick.

Haha well i flushed that 0w20 after 4000km, its only there because of Co2 emissions. Im currently using ravenol 5w30 PAO and will be changing oil every 10000km.

Yes, I would imagine these super light weight oils are mainly there for fuel economy and emissions stuff, can't fathom how these can be better for the engine life.

However, this is a very deep rabbit hole and I don't think I will switch from the manufacturers recommended because there are so many variables in oil weights and their ingredients that it boggles the mind.

How is it a rabbit hole? The B58 and B48 can use 0w20 0w30 0w40 5w30 and 5w40 LL04/01. LL04 if europe and LL01 in other places like the USA. Tuned i would want a higher HTHS oil than 0w20.

Fair enough, didn't realize the manufacturer listed all those as options. Can you please provide me with a link so I can read up on that?

Cheers

You should be able to find information in your manual.
Try Google translate on Oil-club.de and you will find some helpful information.

Will check it out, thanks.

I don’t have my manual or car yet, it’s on a boat in transit arriving mid-March.

See below

Getting exciting, a few weeks until delivery!

One of my main goals is the lighter the better which is why I went with the 330i over the 330e even though the 330e is 20%+ cheaper in our region because of significantly lower import duties on electric and PHEVs. It’s also one of the reasons I didn’t order a moonroof - extra weight in the worse place possible and also it’s literally a hole in your roof that lets water in by design LOL. My main ‘splurge’ option was the M-LSD.

I finally saw the rims I ordered in the flesh for the first time while visiting a dealership in the USA last week and they are my favourite! I was worried that I may have made the wrong choice but in person they look awesome on the mineral grey 330i! See bottom two pics. This is USA spec car so has the yellow side indicator in the front (doesn’t come in our region), and this car didn’t have the M-Sport Brakes. Rims look sweet though!

That looks like a good enough spec. It says cruise control with auto braking. Is that adaptive cruise control? I have the regular cruise control. I don’t think my car will auto brake unless it’d talking about the pre collision thingy.

Yea, no clue what that really does, I didn’t want that option but had to get it to get another option I wanted, I can look up which one it was, may have been the Sports Transmission?

Another interesting thing about my spec, I really disliked the new digital instrument cluster so luckily you could select the old school if you wanted, fwwwweeeewww!

I like the “analog” gauges too. The live cockpit isn’t bad but coming from Audi’s VC, it definitely is lacking. Especially compared to the 2020 A4 which has a much better VC with better resolution (even the MMI display has a much better resolution than my A4/330i). But like you, to get the options I wanted, I had to get the live cockpit.

I hear ya, the digital has grown on me in the last few months watching videos etc., but been driving cars with analog for almost 30 years so kind of hard to get away from that, I am old school which is why I will take less power for lighter weight. Kind of wish this car came in manual but I have driven the 8 speed in a X1 and it is pretty impressive for a slush box.

Don’t worry about the tranny in the 330i. BMW has mastered tuning the ZF. It’s exceptionally good. Tell an uninformed soul that ithe 330i has a DCT and ask them to drive a DSG equipped car to show them how it’s the same and they’ll believe it.

Great! This makes me hopeful.

I drove an Audi with DCT about 8 years ago and it shifted instantly, if the 330i is anywhere near as fast I will be happy.

Do you use the paddles or gear knob when in manual shifting mode?
