New BMW owner here, and I'd like to get others opinions regarding the 10,000 mile recommendation for the first oil change. I'm familiar with 5k and 7.k recommendations with other makes, but out of caution and a bit of skepticism always opted for an early oil change with new vehicles. I have 2200 miles on my 2019 G20. Have i waited too long for the first oil change? Opinions welcomed!

Follow BMW factory recommendations. Every 10K miles or 12 months whichever comes first. Modern engines are so precisely manufactured that there's no need to do an early first oil change.

Only some M cars need an early first oil change due to factory using break in oil.

Hi, I just bought a G20 320D from a BMW main dealer with 9,400 miles and it's 13 months old. The service indicator says it's due an oil change in 5,000 miles and the dealer didn't want to do this for me.

I've just downloaded the car telematics data and it says:
Engine oil
Description: Next service due when the stated distance has been covered or by the specified date.
State: OK
Due (date): 10/01/2020 00:00 UTC
Due in (miles): 4598.14

All the date formats in the report are dd/mm/yyyy so that's telling me it should have been done in Jan? Do you agree, and should I be able to get the dealer to do the oil change?

In the UK service is every 2 years or car specified mileage whichever comes first...

Thanks Tam, strange that the telematics said it needed doing after 1 year though.

I was told, by the service guy at the dealership that the cars automatically calculates the level and the quality of the oil depending on how the car was driven.
Then that would adjust the date and km/mile before oil change.
