It's more powerful had more torque and costs significantly more. The M340i performed well all things considering.

I understand l am a BMW fan boy that's all. You're right though given all those factors the BMW comes out on top.

100% agree
There is no way a car with 20% more power and 20% more torque, same weight would not win 3/3 runs

Considering they are both very similar engines, both turbocharged.
There is no way the bmw would come out ahead, unless it launched quicker than the Audi
Which it did the first run for sure
Iím a fanboy of both brands, Iíve owned 4 M3s, and A5, S4, 2 S5s, and now an RS5 so Iím fairly objective
They are both great brands, and they both make great cars
But 20% power deficiency canít be overcome because it has an M badge

That would mean no risk for BMW
They only ship what is already sold

M cars are not geared or refined for drag races (M240i vs M2 and M340i vs F8X are proof of this) nor are current M cars AWD. THIS VIDEO, however is a proper match up. Heavy AWD Touring cars (wagons in this case) in a straight line. BMW has proven how impressive the M340i is as a touring car/wagon even against a more powerful and more expensive full on RS car.

A few points though:

1) How much time passed between each drag? I would guess that the RS, being more performance oriented, might have more cooling, which means the M340i might have lost the last 2 due to heat soak, which is also something the M cars have over the touring M340i.

2) What tires did each have?

3) RS brakes probably more performance oriented, or again, could still be hot from previous runs etc.

4) I still get bored with drag races, but at least this is a valid comparison, again kudos to the M340i!
Here is question if this M340i have M technology package which have bigger front brakes, oil cooler and 1000W water cooler fan (instead 750W).

The m340i are superb! Seriously considering this for my next car (dependent on what the i4 is like) at the time of me changing in a couple of years.

However, if the new M3 is anything like the M5 and M8 then reign of fast Audi's in a straight line might just be over

That tiny fraction of a second will certainly become crucial when looking for a parking spot at COSTCO with kids screaming and dog barking in the back seat. At least, wagons can carry a lot of toilet paper.

RS4 Avant is my dream wagon, but I love the new Touring too. Since we cannot get either, I can only dream.

If you race paper the winner is obvious indeed !

But as stated the transmission, traction control calibration and so on (and who knows maybe the tires needed a bit more heat) can contribute to the overall performance... You can't blame it all on Joe who just has to floor it with launch control, I guess even a grandma can launch any modern cars.

That's not an option on the G21 in the UK so it shouldn't have it, unless it's a bespoke press car or something.

Impressive showing by the M340i. Sadly we don't get that beauty of a wagon.

But if you don't sell wagons, why would people enquire about them! Most people don't ask because they know you can't by one!

We do sell older wagons (F3x) when we get them on trade but they tend to sit for a long time. But you're right, hard to gauge when they're not readily available. Thankfully, I think the RS6 could help trend the US into a more wagon friendly market.

Some magazine did an interview with Audi head honchos and they said that the RS6 Avant the final shot they're giving the United States to prove that they want wagons.

It's a shame that they brought it in a $100,000 form because not many people can afford a car like that. Not a real fair shot if you ask me.

While that's true, I don't see those cars staying in a dealers inventory for long. They'll be a hot commodity and hopefully that's enough to get the ball rolling on the wagon train.
