or https://demanddetroit.com/engines/dd16/ (probably not) Can the current Garrett tech work both ways? The name sounds like it might be able to (instead of a wastegate???) then be used to spool the turbo back up again

I Wonder if it will be similar to the system in my CLS which uses an electric supercharger that runs off the 48-volt mild-hybrid system. Its awesome technology, gives the engine incredibly smooth output (almost NA-like), and provides plenty of power before the turbo is finished spooling, and even makes start stop so seamless I never have to turn it off. I love this tech in my CLS and would love to see BMW adopt it.
This instagram post by Jason Cammisa better explains the awesome technology Quote:

Electric motor can assist the turbine to provide supplemental boost air to the engine Electric motor (generator) can be driven by excess turbine energy from the exhaust flow Exciting

In the video sounds like 4 cylinder. Exhaust doesn't look like it's routed from the front engine. Kidney grill shut indicates less cooling requirement, all pointing to a 4 cylinder with some hybrid tech.

Really interested to see what this is, haven't been intrigued by a BMW test mule in a while.

Something else is up, the engine if it's a P58 sounded great!

A PHEV with a 4-cyl TERS combined to ~500hp would make perfect sense! Upcoming Mercedes C AMG will presumably also get this configuration!

It definitely sounds like a straight six in the video that I posted on the previous page (listen with headphones to get the best sound). The info provided so far points towards a anniversary special limited edition model that has a P58 engine with MGU-H and possibly MGU-K (to use F1 lingo) and a transaxle. The CSL hommage is a pointer as to what kind of car this will be (hopefully). Oh, and the Batmobile celebrates 50 years in 2023 btw... This article on the CSL hommage also gives som hints as to why the mule has the air ducts in the rear side windows: https://www.carmagazine.co.uk/car-re...e-2015-review/ Quote:
The whole video is worth seeing, but skip to the 13:00 mark to hear what he says about production possibilities Last edited by Boss330; 08-26-2020 at 05:46 AM.. |

Apparently, it's none of the above. It's just a test mule used to test all kind of new technologies.
Also BMW denied working on any config with central mounted engine. |

It's not mid engined (that was debunked early on in this thread) but it's most likely a test mule for the upcoming (hopefully) CSL Hommage drivetrain etc. Front engine, straight six, hybrid tech, possibly transaxle. |
