Drive assist minor issue

Coming back from Dunfermline on Saturday afternoon, during some really bad showers around junction 36 on the M6 twice I got a warning message saying something along the lines of assistance has been reduced. On both occasions the message went, still not there today. Anyone else had anything similar? I'm guessing the camera was obscured due to the torrential rain.

Sounds like some sort of temporary technical issue. I’m sure I’ve seen this discussed in a previous thread also because of torrential rain.

Hi,

I've had that happen several times-- each time, it was one of those "gulley washer' torrential downpour that wipers couldn't even keep up.

I was also quite concerned that something was wrong with my car until I realized that Driver Assist uses radar, which is affected by heavy rain.

Hope that helps!

I think wet roads make it difficult for the sensors to see the white lines. Mines struggles a bit in heavy rain as well.

You're right. During torrential rains, even with the wipers on at full speed, there isn't enough clearing of windshield. So the forward facing camera's vision is obscured to a great extent which in turn affects its detection capabilities. In such situations, the camera goes into safe mode and displays a message to alert the driver that some of the Driver Assit features are temporarily unavailable.

What you experienced is a completely normal and expected behavior of the Driver Asisst system in general and forward facing cameras in particular, under extreme weather conditions. It is after all an assistance system, not an autonomous vehicle.

Hope this helps!
