BMW G20 Base sound amp upgrade

Hi All,

1st Post on the forum, have just moved over from Audi to my first BMW. Got a 2019 320i which I love, but don't love the sound system. I have the base sound so NOT HIFI or HK, so no tweeters in the door and I believe no amp? Just one mid speaker in each door and one woofer under each seat. Am looking at upgrade and just wanted to know if anyone knows how to add an amp or where if fitted the amp would be. From what I understand the base system does not come with an amp as the headhunt powers it which is why is sooooo rubbish.

Any tips or ideas would be welcome and help!
Cheers guys and hoping this forum is a useful as the Audi TT forum!

The Stereo system has no OEM amp in trunk. Have to wait until some vendor creates an audio interface harness for the OEM HU, or cut wires to add an amp to the OEM HU. Most probably BMW will offer an Alpine kit (PnP amp and speakers) for the G20 as they did for the F30.

Anyone know if just changing the base OEM speakers out would make that much of a difference or not? I don't have the tweeters so would have to get coaxial speakers unless I buy the door frame tweeter housing and add tweeters and component speakers.

In my previous M140i I just swapped out the base speakers and added the tweeters in the door with Focal ES100k components and 2 way passive crossovers and it made a big difference. Plus the tweeters make the interior look a little better. So I would say yes.

It isn't cheap though. Cost me £600 fitted including a huge amount of sound deadening added to the doors. I'm sure DIY costs a lot less because it made HK price seem reasonable!

I have HK in my M340i and I like it. But I think the HK system is better than my M140i set up. Saying that if I didn't have HK I would again just upgrade the speakers and leave it at that. The cost starts to out weigh the benefits for me.

Replacing front speakers (mids / tweeters) will surely improve the sound in a noticable manner.

I have HIFI system, and before I eventually upgraded to MatchUp amp, I first replaced the front speaker with ETONs made as a direct replacement for BMW speakers:
https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Since you don't have tweeters, you'll need to purchase the original plastic trim with tweeter holders and replace your current trim without that doesn't have it.

You will surely get better sound as you'll now have tweeters, and ETON speakers are much better quality compared to HIFI ones, let alone the base ones.

After you replace front speakers, you can evaluate if this is good enough or you want to proceed with the amp. However, there are no plug and play amp solutions for G20 base stereo system at this moment (as far as I know).
