I'm eyeing an M340 for next year, it's easily one of the best BMW's you can buy from a pure driving perspective, short of the M5. They bastardized the new 2 series with the FWD nonsense, and I had the 2015 2 series which was great.

Although how fine the 328i might be, ditch it and keep the M2 as long as you can! When you get kids...
...use the GTI for the practicality it delivers! |

I had a 2015 F82 M4 and have made the switch to the M340. I received my G20 approx. 2 weeks ago so there may be some recency bias in my post.. but I will make the bold statement of saying I like my M340 more than the F82.
The F82 had the DCT which is definitely quicker than the M340 transmission, but not by a huge margin. My current transmission does not leave me missing the DCT. Exhaust note I would give to the M340. The crackles and burbles play a large role in my love for this exhaust (F82 rarely burbled, but did make some insanely good sounds nonetheless) The F82 had extended merino leather and my G20 has black sensatec. I love the steering wheel on the G20 (much thicker than the F82). I love the digital dashboard display and the infotainment screen as well. I love driving the M340. It is not as "raw" feeling as the F82 in terms of acceleration and top end speed, but the M340 does not leave much to be desired in that department. It is extremely quick, imo. The Portimao/Cognac combination is something beautiful & I think you'd be pleased to have the M340 as your daily. |

I had a f30 330i (lease) and 2018 m2 also.
Turned in the lease and sold the m2 to get the m340. I feel like the m340 combines the best features of both the m2 and 330. You get the space and comfort of a 3 series but also pretty much the same power if not more as the m2. Handling is about 85% of the m2 I would say. I tried DD'ing the m2 for a while and it was just too rough and too loud. The car is always on edge and ready to go. Which is perfect if you wanna have fun but it gets annoying after a while on a daily basis. |

I recently sold my OG M2 and replaced it with an M340i as I needed a more comfortable daily. I do sometimes miss the M2 as a weekend fun car however I have no regrets as the M340i is a lot more useable and strikes the perfect balance between comfort and performance. IMO the M340i is probably one of the best cars in the current Bmw lineup.

I was actually set on getting a m550 before the m340. I just test drove the m340 out of curiosity and was pleasantly surprised with how lively it is. The m550 feels like a boat around corners compared to the g20. And acceleration is not a huge difference. Also the g20 is about $20k less and not a whole lot smaller inside |

I'm getting ready to trade my F80 for an M340. The ride is too harsh and although the 6MT is fun, it really needs a 7th gear for highway driving. Way too much drone. The M340 reminds me of my E39 but with loads more power.
That said, from a looks standpoint, I love the F80. |

Completely different vehicles. F80 was raw, loud, better handling, better steering feedback, more rattles, more presence although was not much more aggressive from the M-package F30...6MT was the best manual in industry... It was begging to be pushed and abused. And I never got a chance to do so... However, the M340i has everything necessary for every day, city or HWY driving. Comfort, quietness, speed, fun, handling, growl when pushed. Excellent balanced chassis. The only thing noticeable to me is more numb steering, even more than my 2015 335i with M-pack. Very precise steering but...more numb. |

Well yeah, there were other considerations. Turned out I wanted to stick with something a little more on the raw side.

Yea if this guy says no to an M340 just based on auto start / stop he has some screws loose. And the MY21 have the hybrid system which should make the function less of an issue.
