G22 M440i Arrived

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Hi All,
Took delivery of my m440i a few days back so thought I’d update about my initial thoughts.

I’m coming from a C43 Mercedes which I really enjoyed and was one of the few cars I was sad to see go back at end of lease, so my comparison is mostly to that.... and so far I’m very impressed!

My highest priorities for a car are.
1. The drivers Asistance (2 hour commute across London everyday)
2. The power
3. The look, hence I always prefer 2 door cars

So for the first point, I think the Bmw drivers assistant pro feels reliable, the biggest difference to mercedes is that the merc seems to be more comfortable without a car in front to follow, but the Bmw switches off more often in this instance. And also I don’t appear to have lane change assist which was a nice feature when using a lot. The Bmw having touch sensors in the steering wheel is great though ie not having to actually give it a shake like on the merc. I’m yet to see what the benefit of the camera watching me is as I think this new.

On to the drive and power, the car feels like a beast similar to my old E93 M3 but with the mild hybrid is very smooth, but very quiet it almost feels like an EV! Would’ve really liked more roar but eu regs I guess. The lower stance makes it feel very planted, the handling is great but the steering does feel a little numb.

I have to mention one negative here however is that the steering wheel is huge, I have big hands but this thing is girthy and a strange design choice, I would prefer not to notice it.

Finally on to the styling so far no ones mentioned the grill, with the euro plate I don’t think the grill is noticeable to non bmw people. I do personally think the extra length of the car compared to the old gen car is unnecessary and has taken away from the proportions of the car a little. It looks and feels a lot more GT than track car and they already had the 8 series for that so I don’t know why it was made bigger than the 3 series.

So all round great car and these are my initial observations when comparing to my last few cars

Good looking car and good assessment of it. After a month with mine I agree with almost everything you said, although I don’t have the assistance pro so I can’t relate to that.

Great looking car!
Same spec and colour sitting at my dealer here in Canada. Same as you I came from a 2018 c43 coupe. I miss it sometimes as it was a sharp looking car with a more of a go cart feel but without the smooth power. I went for the new M340ix and love it after 6 months. I can't believe how very different 2 cars can be. Stay safe over there and have a great holiday season.
Ps I really liked the C43 wheel with the alcantara and flat bottom

Looks amazing, especially color in the bottom night pic.
As far as Assistant Pro it depends if your commute include motorway, the traffic jam assist not going to fully engage on the regular roads, but on a highway you will get complete hands off experience.

Side profile still looks to me like a cross between the 8-series and the Mustang. I know, I can't make sense of it either...

We have similar taste the c43 was nice got a lot of complements (especially because of the paint ), but have received a few for the 4 series already! Will be interested to see how they compare in the long run, at the moment it does feel like the 4 is more comparable to the E class, but we’ll see.

Thanks for the wishes hope you have a good (and safe) Xmas too!

I should have my M440i next week- came off the ship yesterday. I just parked next to one at the store- makes my 440i design look outdated. Can't wait!

SA called last week to ask if we wanted to test drive one before it was sold. I ended up taking one out for a spin and in my opinion is a significant enough improvement over the F32 in terms of interior feel and quality. It seems like you sit a little bit lower than the F32, and that makes the tunnel seem a bit higher. You can definitely tell they've reshaped the roof a bit, there's more headroom in the front seats compared to the F32 and a little less for the rear seats. Comparing the M Sport suspension of the G22 vs the F32 we have, the G22 does ride much better on rough roads.

I couldn't really bang it out to redline because traffic was so bad but we'll be doing a custom order for one in the coming months.
The grile looks better in person too

love the color!! One of the best for sure.

Now, is it me or does the rear quarter panel view look really bland. Like no form. I think the lack of a bodyline really ruins it.
In comparison the C43 pulls it off because of the bodyline.
thoughts?
