HELP with new wheels
Hi all
I'm looking to buy some new alloy wheels but I can't figure out if the wheels fits my car or not. I have a BMW 320i G21. The wheels I'm looking at is: TEC Speedwheels GT-7. 8.5 J, ET 25.0, 5/112 And with the tyres 225/40, both front and back. Do they fit? I have added a TUV report, but I'm not sure how to read it. I don't what to add any spacers or do changes to the brake system or any bodywork. Thanks very much!! |

Why not go with a wider tyre? Assume your G21 came with a square setup from factory and you wish to use your existing tyres.

Hi Larry
Thanks for your reply. It is much appreciated. The 6mm you are talking about - is that compared to the current 17" stock OEM wheels the car came with? In regard to tyres, the reason for 225/40 was that it were the only tyres I could choose without do any changes to brake system or body. Please see attachment from online shop. But maybe that is wrong? What you choose instead? Thanks |

Factory 17" spec is 17x7.5 ET30 so the 19" wheels will stick out a further 18mm. FYI, I own a G20 M340iX with 19x8.5 ET25-235/40 in the front and 19x9.5 ET35-265/35 in the rear. My wheels would stick out 18mm and 20mm, front and rear, respectively relative to your factory wheels... no rubbing and the wheels/tires are still tucked behind the fender line. Quote:
If you would like to stay square and with a 40 profile tire, 225/40 is a little stretched on an 8.5" wheel. I would recommend going a little wider, perhaps 235/40. Your tire (rim protector) will protect the rim a little better with 235/40. It may be possible to fit 245/40 but I am concerned the front may rub the wheel liner (in front of the tire), while turning the wheel lock-to-lock. Perhaps other members that have fitted 245/40 in the front (with a similar wheel specs) can share their experiences. Larry

Thanks again, Larry.
I really appreciate your insights on this matter. I would agree with you, that the online supplier probably is very conservative (to avoid any problems in the future). But i would assume that potential a 245/35 would work. Though the TUV mention that might need changes to the body. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that the wheels/rims are a little concave... Also, I understand your point about of 225/40 tyres on a 8,5J wheel. It might end up looking a little strechted - though it is still safe to drive the size? Also at high speeds? Thanks again. |

I did not even consider TUV approval so perhaps this is the reason. In NA, we do not have to get our mods approved by any authority. Quote:
